Can you describe your role and responsibilities?
— My name is Eniko Bront, and I serve as the Director of Biostatistics and Statistical Programming at Aixial Group. In this role, I have the privilege of managing highly skilled professionals globally.
I work closely with Biometry Management to define and implement Aixial Group’s Biostatistics and Statistical Programming strategy; I manage, direct and co-ordinate all activities within Biostatistics and Statistical Programming, including project activities, budgets, and resources. I am committed to ensuring the highest quality expectations within my department, approving departmental processes, and leading or contributing to the implementation of systems, processes, and standards.
What role has Aixial Group played in your professional development? How has the company supported your growth and advancement?
— Aixial Group values the performance and potential of its employees, providing the trust needed to embrace new opportunities and challenges. The company ensures fair opportunities, recognizes individual performance, and offers the necessary support to advance career steps. Aixial has provided me with the right opportunities, support, trust, and guidance to succeed in my career, along with valuable mentoring from my managers.
What inspired you to pursue a career in clinical research?
— A passion for data analysis has always been the driving force behind my pursuit of a career in statistics. Clinical research provided a meaningful purpose to my work with data, inspiring me to embark on this journey.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the CRO or STEM fields?
— Reflecting on my career path, I realize I have been fortunate not to encounter gender or ethnicity bias. The challenges I faced were more about navigating the rapidly changing industry and the need for continuous adaptation. Working for global companies like Aixial Group, I did not experience stereotypical thinking. Instead, I had the opportunity to grow professionally in a multicultural and diverse environment where performance and a strong work ethic are the criteria for appreciation.
How do you navigate the challenges that come with leadership, especially as a woman in the workplace?
— I firmly believe that merit and recognition are gender agnostic. I treat every individual in my reporting structure with equal respect and trust, irrespective of their gender. My role at Aixial Group, overseeing Biostatisticians and Statistical Programmers, has given me the wonderful opportunity to connect with remarkable people from various locations. While adapting my leadership style to suit each person’s unique approach can be challenging, it is undoubtedly rewarding.
As a manager, what values guide your approach to management?
— As someone passionate about leadership, I deeply respect and trust the people I work with, fostering a culture of responsibility and integrity. I hold myself and my team to high behavioural and performance standards. Authenticity, being genuine and honest, creates an environment where my team members feel empowered and supported.
Leadership also involves adaptability—adjusting to changing circumstances and diverse challenges while striving for excellence.
How has the perception of gender roles evolved in clinical research over the years, and what progress still needs to be made?
— In today’s world, diversity and inclusion are central focuses for companies. I am fortunate to work for Aixial Group, a company that champions diversity and fair treatment, with many exceptional women in key management positions.
Sharing success stories is a powerful way to inspire young women to pursue careers in CRO or STEM industries. By organizing mentoring programs and collaborating to achieve excellence, we can make a significant impact.
However, individual contributions are crucial as well. Promoting diversity is not solely a company’s responsibility; it also involves personal effort and self-education to foster inclusion and recognize any biases we may hold.
What advice would you give to young women looking to enter the CRO or STEM industries?
— Success and career progression are not achieved overnight. One must build their career step-by-step, guided by curiosity and adaptability in this fast-paced field. Discipline, a strong work ethic, hard work, integrity, respect, and a positive attitude are key to achieving success. These values, combined with accumulated work experience, will foster self-confidence and lead to professional recognition.
